What is GMAT Exam?

The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is a standardized exam used for admissions into business schools worldwide. It assesses analytical, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written English. The test is designed to evaluate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, which are crucial for success in MBA and other graduate management programs.

The GMAT exam is widely accepted by top business schools globally and plays a vital role in the admissions process. With a validity of five years, a good GMAT score can significantly enhance your chances of securing admission to a top-tier business school.

GMAT Focus Edition Structure

The GMAT Focus Edition is the latest version of the GMAT exam, featuring a streamlined structure aimed at better assessing a candidate’s skills. Unlike the classic GMAT, the GMAT Focus Edition consists of three key sections:

Quantitative Reasoning – Tests mathematical and problem-solving skills.

Verbal Reasoning – Assesses Reading comprehension and critical reasoning.

Data Insights – A new section that focuses on data interpretation and integrated reasoning skills.

This revised format allows test-takers to review and change up to three answers per section, making the test more flexible and adaptive to modern business requirements.

Understanding GMAT Scores: Classic vs. Focus Edition

Many top business schools mention GMAT score requirements of 720, 730, 740, or even 750 for competitive admissions. These scores typically refer to the GMAT Classic Edition scores, which remain valid for five years.

If you have taken the GMAT Focus Edition, you may need to check how your score translates to the Classic GMAT scores. For example, a 655 in the GMAT Focus Edition is equivalent to a 700-level score in the Classic GMAT. Some business schools provide this conversion on their websites, but for convenience, you can check the GMAT Score Conversion Table.
